Cyprus is not huge, but the most popular holiday areas are different from each other.
If you are planning your first trip, these are the places tourists usually choose most often.
Paphos
Paphos is great if you want a mix of beaches, history, restaurants and day trips.
You can visit archaeological places, explore the harbour, go to Akamas, relax on the beach or take a boat trip.
It is a good choice if you want more than just sunbeds and nightlife, however we have many clubs on a bar street 😉
Larnaca
Larnaca has a more relaxed city feel.
It is known for Finikoudes promenade, beaches, cafeteries and the salt lake.
Ayia Napa
Ayia Napa is one of the most famous holiday destinations in Cyprus.
It is known for beautiful beaches, crystal-clear water and crazy nightlife. In summer, it can get very busy, but if you want beach clubs, bars and a more energetic atmosphere, it is one of the obvious choices.
However, I would not really recommend visiting Ayia Napa in winter. Once the season ends, many places close and the town can feel almost like a ghost town.
Protaras
Protaras is quieter than Ayia Napa and very popular with couples and families.
The beaches are the main reason to visit, especially Fig Tree Bay, in my opinion the best beach in cyprus as it is full of sand, no rocks, no at all. The water is usually calm and very clear.
What about Limassol?
Limassol is a bigger, more modern city with a strong business vibe.
There are good restaurants, Marina harbour, bars and a long seafront, but for a typical holiday I personally find Paphos, Ayia Napa or Protaras more interesting.
Which one should you choose?
For history and variety: Paphos.
For beaches and nightlife: Ayia Napa.
For a quieter beach holiday: Protaras.
For a relaxed city break: Larnaca.
And if you cannot decide — Cyprus is small enough to visit more than one. ☀️🌊
